It is nice to see other folks seeing that modern liberal/progressive thought has its roots in the French Revolution. For the question of who would you kill in the past to prevent future catastrophe, Hitler is not the top of my list. Robespierre (maybe Rousseau), Karl Marx, and Stalin top mine.

The Clearing

The soldier crept through the woods in a clumsy fashion. He did not know exactly where he was. The trees reminded him of the forests of his home. There he was safe. Here he was not.

In his mind he still heard the cries of pain from his fellow troops he had left behind in the confusion of the battle. It was not his intent to desert them in their time of need. He had been overwhelmed by the sense of fight or flight, and he had chosen flight.

The soldier was young. Only nineteen. He had been lured by the promise of excitement, adventure, and money. Plus, if he served his time, he had promised a house and land near the town he was currently stationed. 

He stopped and knelt down. He reached for his canteen only to discover it was gone. Fear had parched his throat. He considered trying to lick the dew off the grass, but decided it was not worth the effort. Nervous sweat stung his eyes. He wiped his face with his free hand. His other hand gripped his rifle tighter. At least he had not dropped that. His sergeant, a brutal man, would have beaten him for that. But that did not bother him. His sergeant was one of the first ones killed in the battle, almost as if he had been targeted. In fact he had noticed that all the leadership of his patrol, the officer and four sergeants, were the first ones shot. All control had been lost. It seemed like the attackers knew exactly what to do.

I Think I Was Wrong.

I had thought that with the election of Donald Trump we were going to have a small (2-6 year) reprieve. A buffer zone so to speak in order to finalize what we needed to have done in preparing for a resurgent Left. I think I was wrong. Instead, the timetable has been sped up.

Familiar Ground.

Today I hit my second job fair in a week. It has been a tough week. Plenty of rejection in the job hunt. Over the weekend I was hit hard with thoughts of failure and being over the hill. A majority of my old unit is deployed to Afghanistan and I miss "the guys." After going to the job fair, I decided to take advantage of being in the suit and hit a couple of private business here in town. Both are fairly well known in the industry. One is an AR manufacturer amongst other things, and the other is in the AR500 body armor industry.
